The therapy
courtyard in Longreach House is a long, thin space between the new building
and a rather fine sandstone wall of what was once the stable block.
The main therapy rooms on that side of the therapy wing, open up onto
this courtyard with large double doors, so that when the weather is
good, patients and therapists can work outside.
The courtyard
though, only catches the sun for fairly short periods daily.
A small water cascade was conceived to reflect this light and provide
a certain amount of movement and interest. The water feature, placed
at the centre of the sandstone wall, circulates water from a small open
tank which contains fish to a stepped cascade of patterned porcelain.
