Martha Donelan has been appointed as the new Director of Development at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM), effective June 7. Donelan holds a BA in Art History from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and has over 25 years of marketing and development experience.
“Martha is a perfect fit for our museum,” said Greg Gorga, Executive Director of SBMM. “Her background in development and marketing is exactly what the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum needs right now, as we continue to expand our educational programming and strengthen our bonds with the community. “
Originally from Connecticut, Donelan worked in public relations for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Yale Center for British Art, and the Connecticut Humanities Council before moving to Santa Barbara in 1997.
Since then, she has worked in marketing and communications for the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. From 2005, she focused her efforts on development at Laguna Blanca School, CAMA and Habitat for Humanity.
Most recently at the Santa Barbara Humane Society, Donelan was responsible for all development programs, including fundraising, major giving, fundraising events, and grant writing. She also led marketing strategy, media communications and inquiries.
In his new role at SBMM, Donelan will strive to develop and maintain membership, participation, programs and funding sources, as SBMM prepares to fully reopen after 15 months of Covid shutdown, and expand its program offerings.
“I am delighted to join this fascinating museum which celebrates Santa Barbara’s rich maritime history and helps raise the profile of the museum and raise funds for all of our exhibits and programs,” said Donelan.
