“Ola Bola” Director Chiu Keng Guan’s Latest Film “On Your Mark” Wins RM24 Million at Chinese Box Office

Ola Bola Director Chiu Keng Guan makes history with his latest film On your marks, which is also his first Chinese film.

On your marks opened in China on Friday, June 18, and took home RM 8.7 million at the box office on day one, placing # 1 in the country’s film charts.

Berita Harian reported that as of Tuesday, June 22, the film has earned over RM24 million.

The filmmaker told the Malaysian portal: “As a Malaysian filmmaker, I am very happy that the film is so well received in China.

“I hope he will continue to be successful.

“I can’t wait for the film to be screened in Malaysia soon.”

The film is produced by Jiangsu Hao Di Cultural Development, the Sports Culture Development Center of the State Sports General Administration (China Sports Museum) and Astro Shaw, which is the main distributor of the film in Malaysia.

Starring Chinese actors Yanhui Wang, Youhao Zhangt and Beibi Gong, it tells the story of a young man who wants to be a marathoner like his mother.

However, his father is not too fond of his son chasing this dream for some reasons.

It is reported that Chiu received the offer to lead On your marks in 2016 when a Chinese producer approached him after the screening of Ola Bola at the Shanghai Film Festival.

Chiu’s other two previous films are The trip and Think big big.
